Block Access / Black List
To block access to e.g. www.ebay.com, enter ebay, that way access to the website will be blocked whether a user enters www.ebay.com or ebay.com.
You can also set a specific path, for example when you enter domain.com/path, will block:
but will NOT block
- http://www.domain.com/otherpath
Allow Access / White List
Any website NOT containing a listed keyword will be blocked. Note that some website have their content spread across multiple URL’s, so in order for such website to be displayed correctly, you will need to add all of the keywords to the list. For example, in order to correctly display ebay.com, the following keywords will have to be added to the list:
- ebay.com
- ebaystatic.com
- ebayobjects.com
- ebayrtm.com
- Possibly other URL’s that ebay.com rents advertising space to.
The most effective way (that we have found so far) to find a list of URL’s a specific website loads content from is to use Mozilla Firefox Internet browser with an add-on called View Dependencies.
Show a warning, do not block it
When a site is blocked, a warning will be displayed and the browser will simply display Bad Request or a similar message. If you have enabled web monitoring then the url visited will be logged. You can check the user’s session report to view these blocked sites.
