You can access this screen by following these steps:

  1. Log in with a parent account
  2. Double-click on the WatchDog icon in the System Tray (bottom-right corner of the screen)
  3. In the left navigation bar, click on Options
  4. In the left navigation bar of the window that comes up, click on Security
  5. Open the Windows Environment tab

Disable Fast User Switching (XP only)

WatchDog will disable the ability to use “Switch User…” on the Windows Logout Screen.

Hide WatchDog from Task Manager

Hides WatchDog from Task Manager’s list of open programs. In Windows XP, this option will hide WatchDog from the Task Manager’s Applications list. However, watchdog.exe will still be listed on the Processes list. There is no possible way to hide watchdog.exe from this list. Instead, you can disable Task Manager for specific users in this screen.

Automatically close hung applications when shutting down

Windows will not wait for hung applications to close before shutting down. Setting this option is recommended.

Password protect WatchDog configuration screens

This option secures WatchDog in case a Parent User steps away from the computer. A password verification is needed for access to the WatchDog Main screen and Options screen.

Do not modify Windows policy settings (not recommended)

This will stop WatchDog from modifying any existing Windows Policy Settings. Not recommended due to the fact that WatchDog relies on many of the Windows policies to secure Windows. Only enable if you have already put your own Windows Policy Settings in place.

Task Manager (Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003 only)

You may wish to remove the Windows Task Manager from the system. This way, the user will not be able to ever close WatchDog and other important system programs.

If you remove the Windows Task Manager, it will be moved to a random secret location on the hard disk to back it up. After that, running the Windows Task Manager will result in nothing happening. You may restore the Windows Task Manager from this location at a later date.

You are advised to enable the WatchDog Task Manager instead to allow users to close down non-essential system applications.
